I crossed the finish line completely out of breath, satisfied that I had given everything I had and held off the person behind me who had been on my tail for the last 100 yards. As I ran over to my husband and 2½ year old daughter, I realized she was in tears. She had been waiting for me, a few yards from the finish line, to give me a celebratory high five. However, as I approached her, I heard the sound of footsteps from the runner behind me. Instinctively, I kicked it into high gear and sprinted to the finish line, and missed my daughter’s outstretched hand. When I went back to see her, my heart sunk as I saw her tears and I knew that I had disappointed her...

Do you believe it is possible to live up to Charles Swindoll's famous quote “Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react.”? I had two choices 1) Doom and gloom: Decide the day sucked and act accordingly 2) Optimism: Decide to let go of the urge to feed my inner tantrum and believe in the power of optimistic thinking... Must I say more? Being a mom and domestic engineer is the highest calling I have every received. To have all 3 of the items in this illustration is often impossible. Now is a perfect moment to have the extra grace for this time in our lives. A recent speaker shared a poem about the last times with our children. There will be a last time you are asked to kiss their booboos, a last time they request midnight hugs, a last time they hold your hand across the street, a last time they want to cuddle, play, or dress like mommy. A simple reminder to cherish each moment even when it is hard. There may be a day I hold their hands for the last time but I will hold their hearts forever. |
